Arrow's state-of-the-art Ultra Filtration plant has not only helped to minimise their environmental impact, through better energy efficiency and reduced waste, but has improved the company's ability to handle high COD waters such as spent coolants, condensate water, washings and other similar waste streams generated by industrial processes that contain oil and water. Ultra-filtration serves as an effective and reliable way of separating water from the oil to permit both to be reused.

Tougher regulations are having an impact on the way companies are having to consider dealing with their waste. The system of integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) applies an integrated environmental approach to the regulation of certain industrial activities. The use of 'Best Available Techniques' (BAT), which balances the costs to the operator against the benefits to the environment are being vigorously encouraged by the enforcers in an effort to reduce emissions into air, water and land. In other words, recycle, reuse or be penalised by high costs of disposal.

With the Directive in mind, Arrow's state-of-the-art Ultra Filtration plant has not only helped to minimise their environmental impact, through better energy efficiency and reduced waste, but has improved the company's availability to handle high COD waters such as spent coolants, condensate water, washings and other similar waste streams generated by industrial processes that contain oil and water.

Treatment using membrane filtration is the best available and lowest cost technology. This process is considered to be consistent with the principles of Best Available Techniques Not Entailing Excessive Costs (BATNEEC). Best Practical Environmental Option (BPEO) and Best Practice Guidance promoted by the Environment Agency. In utilising this process you can ensure that your company is not only fulfilling it's obligations under IPPC but your waste is being dealt with effectively by the best technique available.

In the treatment of oily wastewater, Ultra Filtration membranes will retain oil while allowing water to pass through. The membranes are especially effective at separating emulsified oils not separable by settling, skimming or coalescing from water. The surface of the tube is scoured as the fluid passes, preventing the formation of a filter cake.

The water passing through the ultra-filtration membrane is sent to sewer or reused, depending on the specific requirement. The materials such as oil, are retained by the membrane are then reused by refiners to use as a secondary fuel oil. Ultra-filtration is used as a kidney for the continuous removal of contaminants to raise product quality, and lower energy consumption.

The Ultra Filtration treatment plant encompasses the meaning of recycling and efficiency. Together, the coalescer and ultrafiltration systems recover essentially 100% of the oil from incoming oily wastewater mixtures.
